The name kar derives from the root of the Sanskrit word karma, evoking the concept of karmic reincarnation. The studio explores the cause and effect of aesthetics, integrating tradition and modernity to create contemporary design grounded in Oriental philosophy. Drawing inspiration from art, literature, culture, memory, and personal emotion, kar- focuses on a sensibility that is free yet restrained. Each design seeks to communicate feeling and create resonance, while also experimenting with new technologies and materials to expand the possibilities of form. In the making process, emotion is embedded from the first kneading of the clay. The artist’s state of mind—whether joy or sorrow—guides the pressure of the hand, leaving traces that shape the work’s character. When completed, each piece functions as a resonator, allowing the emotions of both creator and viewer to echo through its form.
The studio’s aesthetic embraces unadorned edges and plain lines, reflecting the purity of uncontrived emotion. Among the many materials explored, fiberglass emerged as the most fitting medium—light yet strong, capable of forming irregular contours. Achieving the desired jade-like surface involves countless refinements: precise layering of fiberglass, days of polishing to achieve smooth joints and a cobblestone-like texture. Each step demands mastery, the culmination of decades of artisanal skill.
