Philia & Kids

Collective Creation Through Design

Founded by Galerie Philia and conceived by Ygaël Attali, Philia & Kids introduces children and adolescents to the worlds of design, craftsmanship and artistic creation through direct collaboration with designers, artists and local artisans.

Working with reclaimed wood, locally sourced and discarded materials, participants learn traditional and contemporary making techniques while developing original works of their own. The programme encourages experimentation, material awareness and creative confidence, transforming overlooked resources into objects of meaning, beauty and imagination.

Each edition culminates in a public exhibition, offering participants the opportunity to share their creations with a wider audience and celebrating their role as authors within the creative process.

Transhumances

Art, Craft and Territory

Inspired by the centuries old practice of transhumance, the seasonal movement of people and animals across landscapes, this residency programme invites artists and designers to immerse themselves in rural environments and engage with local ways of living, making and transmitting knowledge.

Through extended stays, participants develop projects in dialogue with a specific territory, drawing from its materials, histories, traditions and communities. The programme encourages a slower approach to creation, rooted in observation, exchange and long term engagement.

Each residency culminates in an exhibition, publication or collective presentation, sharing the outcomes of these encounters between contemporary creation and local cultures.

Philia × Arc

Design in the Expanded Field

PHILIA x ARC invites designers to undertake research driven residencies in Cappadocia, Turkey. Set within one of the world's most distinctive cultural and geological landscapes, the programme explores the relationship between design, architecture, craft and territory.

Through extended periods of immersion, participants engage with the region's materials, vernacular architecture, traditional techniques and local communities. The residency encourages a site responsive approach to creation, where research, observation and making become inseparable.

Developed in dialogue with local artisans and makers, each project seeks to establish meaningful connections between contemporary design and the cultural heritage of Cappadocia.

  • Research and immersion in the Cappadocian landscape
  • Collaboration with local artisans and traditional know how
  • Creations rooted in local materials and regional craftsmanship
  • Exhibitions presenting the residency outcomes locally and internationally

Laboratories in Motion

PHILIA built a nomadic residency program year after year, inviting international artists to work locally with local materials for local events — thought of as laboratories experimenting with different practices to study the feasibility of a sculptural design conscious of contemporary environmental challenges.
