5 Picks from PHILIA Collection

Ciona Lee is a Korean-Italian artist and designer based in London. She began working with ceramics in 2016, learning basic techniques in a Barcelona studio before developing her skills as a self-taught artist. Her work has been exhibited in Paris and London and is available in galleries and shops across France and the UK. Her ceramic practice can be found under the brand Tonfisk.

Ciona’s practice centres on hand-built sculptural forms inspired by the organic shapes of nature and the human body. She primarily works with neutral-toned clays and glazes, often leaving pieces unglazed to highlight their raw, tactile textures. She values hand-building for its fluid, intuitive process — starting with a form in mind and allowing it to evolve naturally, resulting in unique, imperfect works. Her focus lies in creating vases and sculptural pieces that embody a sense of organic spontaneity.

“Simple, organic with a playful and child-like charm.”

“Love the two-dimensionality and the glaze, reminiscent of an oil painting.”
“Feels like it emerged from nature itself.”
“A gentle softness, with rich, earthy tones.”

“Soft, minimal, simple but with character.”
