Belgian designer Thomas Serruys (b. 1986) is a self-taught object and furniture creator whose early fascination with vintage and industrial design led him from law school to design entrepreneurship. Established in 2016, his atelier began in Ostend, moved through Zaventem Ateliers, and now thrives in a repurposed cotton-spinning mill on the outskirts of Bruges.
Serruys’s work articulates a logic of simplicity and material honesty, enhanced by intuitive experimentation and a deep engagement with aging gracefully. Inspired by mid-20th-century movements, he designs objects that integrate seamlessly into daily life—tools of beauty designed to endure. Materials are selected for how they age, allowing each piece to accumulate story. His practice also embraces exhibition and community, as evidenced by his two-floor atelier facilitating both production and programmatic display, situating maker and audience within a shared creative ecology.
