Sylvia Eustache Rools is an artist and designer whose practice unfolds at the intersection of material exploration, natural phenomena, and ancestral gesture. At the origin of AWARÉ lies the meeting of two distinct artistic universes—hers and that of Jérôme Pereira—united by a shared fascination with the geological forces that shape the planet and humanity’s place within this vast, cyclical system.

Since 2013, Eustache Rools and Pereira have developed a deeply intuitive collaboration founded on reciprocal listening, porosity, and receptivity. Their practices—his rooted in woodworking, hers in a pictorial approach to textiles—intertwine to create sculptural objects that emerge from both natural transformation processes and the deliberate work of the hand. Through an interlacing of primary gestures, they give form to artefacts that resemble fragments of the earth while evoking the archetypal function of the container.

These works operate as bridges between geological and archaeological time, blurring the boundaries between object, sculpture, and ritual form. Recognized internationally, AWARÉ was awarded the Kit Kemp Firmdale One to Watch prize at the COLLECT art fair in London in 2018 and was selected as a finalist for the 2022 LOEWE Craft Prize, affirming the duo’s singular contribution to contemporary craft and sculptural design.
