Atelier Dutré

Atelier Dutré is a design studio led by Brazilian-born designer Mateus Dutra, whose practice explores the intersection of sculpture, furniture, and functional art. Based in New York, Dutra brings together experiences in fashion, photography, and interior design, developed through his time in different international creative environments. His approach is deeply connected to marble, a material he encountered from an early age through his family’s involvement in stone extraction and craftsmanship in Brazil. This background continues to inform his understanding of material, proportion, and form, shaping a practice rooted in both inherited knowledge and contemporary experimentation.

Working primarily with natural stone, Atelier Dutré investigates the relationship between solidity and fluidity, exploring how sculptural forms can coexist with functional design. Influenced by Brutalism and post-functionalist design, the studio develops furniture and objects that emphasize the physical presence of materials while introducing softened curves and carefully considered proportions. Through an ongoing exploration of form, silhouette, and surface, Atelier Dutré seeks to reinterpret traditional materials within a contemporary design context.
