Established in 2018 by Canadian-born designer and artist Evan Jerry, Studio ANANSI is a contemporary design practice that reexamines modernity through an Afrocentric lens. The studio’s work seeks to reveal cultural narratives and aesthetic influences that have often been overlooked or obscured within contemporary design discourse.
Named after Anansi—the spider figure of West African and Caribbean folklore revered as the god of storytelling and knowledge—the studio draws deeply from the power of narrative. Evan Jerry’s early exposure to Anansi’s tales, combined with his global experiences, has shaped a design approach grounded in cultural connection, curiosity, and interpretation. These influences inform a practice that transforms storytelling into sculptural and architectural objects, each conceived as a vessel for new narratives.
Studio ANANSI’s work has been realized through collaborations with notable brands such as CB2 and TRNK New York, and has received international recognition in leading publications including Interior Design, Wallpaper*, Architectural Digest, Azure, Design Milk, and Sight Unseen. The studio’s projects have also been presented at major global platforms, including the London Design Festival, affirming its position within the evolving landscape of contemporary collectible design.
