Based in Paris, Dirk Meylaerts defines his practice through what he calls procedural aesthetics: furniture whose form arises from process and constraint rather than function alone. Trained in philosophy, dance, and cabinetmaking, he combines intellectual rigor with embodied craft, creating works that bridge cultural references, tradition, and contemporary life.
Working exclusively with salvaged solid woods such as pear and walnut, Meylaerts produces post-industrial furniture that honors the living character of materials while addressing today’s ecological and social conditions. Previously Director of Production at Lafayette Anticipations, he now devotes himself fully to his independent practice, offering pieces that are at once functional, reflective, and deeply rooted in process.
