Milla Vaahtera is a Finnish artist and designer based in Porvoo whose multidisciplinary practice spans collectible design, sculpture, and contemporary craft. Trained at Aalto University, where she received her Master of Arts degree in 2010, her work explores the dialogue between material, movement, and intuition through sculptural compositions that merge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary expression. Deeply committed to preserving Finland’s rich heritage of handmade arts, Vaahtera continually reinterprets glassmaking through experimentation and collaboration.

Best known for her ongoing Dialogue series, initiated in 2017, Vaahtera creates mobiles, stabiles, and sculptural lighting that combine expressive hand-blown glass with delicately handcrafted brass structures. Developed in close collaboration with master glassblowers while the brass elements are crafted by the artist herself, each work embraces improvisation and the unpredictable qualities of the making process. Her practice has been presented internationally through museums, galleries, and design institutions, establishing a distinctive body of work that balances sculptural form, material sensitivity, and poetic spatial compositions.
