Atelier Hugo França, led by Brazilian sculptor and designer Hugo França, is a creative sanctuary nestled in Trancoso, where discarded tree trunks, roots, and forest remnants find new life. These organic forms, often overlooked in conventional woodworking, are carefully selected by França for their unique textures and natural contours.
França’s sculptural process begins with an intimate dialogue with each piece of raw wood. He draws directly on the surface, following the veins, knots, and curves that nature has already inscribed. In his hands, these elements become both guide and collaborator. Through the refined yet visceral use of the chainsaw, França redefines its role—transforming it from a utilitarian tool into an instrument of sustainable artistry. The resulting works—sculptural furniture, evocative objects, and site-responsive installations—carry within them an ecological narrative and spiritual resonance. By honoring the inherent beauty and history of the material, Hugo França invites viewers and users into a contemplative relationship with nature’s forms, memories, and rhythms.
