Pia Chevalier is an independent designer and ceramist, trained at Paris’s École Boulle in craftsmanship and design. Working from her atelier in Poush, Aubervilliers, she develops a practice at the intersection of furniture and sculpture, transforming everyday objects into sensitive, singular works. Her creations—ranging from voluptuous tables and monumental totemic structures to octopus-shaped vases and candy-like mirrors—reflect a playful and tactile approach to form.
Inspired by the culinary world, Chevalier explores textures and contrasts, combining glossy glazes with matte engobes and generous, rounded volumes that invite touch and interaction. Each piece is hand-shaped with spontaneity and delight, balancing raw materiality with poetic functionality.
Chevalier embraces the inherent flaws and entropy of materials, allowing processes of oxidation and natural transformation to inform her work. Through this approach, objects evolve over time, cultivating a living relationship with their users. Her practice elevates everyday items to sculptural status, creating emotional resonance and enduring collectibility. Each creation embodies a sense of permanence, while retaining the ephemeral and unexpected moments of its making, resulting in works that are at once intimate, expressive, and timeless.
